This is our friend's, Naomi Ergos Leventis' father, Giorgios Ioannis Ergos, from Kalymnos, Greece. He was a true war hero. He was a prisoner of war in Italy, tortured by the Germans to give up his troops. He never, ever gave up any information!! He was shot twice, once in the leg and once in the arm. His arm was also b...roken during the torture process.
Αυτός είναι της φίλης μας, Nαόμη Έργος Λεβέντη, πατέρας, Γεώργιος Ιωάννης Έργος, από την Κάλυμνο. Ήταν ένας πραγματικός ήρωας πολέμου. Ήταν αιχμάλωτος πολέμου στην Ιταλία, βασανίστηκε από τους Γερμανούς για να προδώσει την θέση των στρατιωτών του. Ποτέ δεν μαρτύρησε οποιαδήποτε πληροφορία! Τον πυροβόλησαν δύο φορές, μία φορά στο πόδι και μία φορά στο χέρι. Το χέρι του επίσης είχε υποστεί κάταγμα κατά τη διάρκεια των βασανιστηρίων.

Ο "Χριστός της Ιερουσαλήμ" είναι μία τρίκλιτη παλαιοχριστιανική βασιλική, που βρίσκεται στην περιοχή Λιμνιώτισσα, σε απόσταση 200 μ. δυτικά της Χώρας Καλύμνου, δίπλα στην ασφαλτοστρωμένη οδό που οδηγεί από τη Χώρα προς τον Πάνορμο.
Στην ευρύτερη περιοχή όπου περιλαμβάνεται και η παλαιοχριστιανική βασιλική του Χριστού τη...ς Ιερουσαλήμ απλωνόταν κατά τους προχριστιανικούς χρόνους το τέμενος του Δηλίου Απόλλωνος, του προστάτη και πολιούχου θεού της Καλύμνου. Σύμφωνα με επιγραφικές μαρτυρίες ο χώρος αποτελούσε το πολιτικό και θρησκευτικό κέντρο της αρχαίας Καλύμνου. Εδώ υπήρχαν οι ναοί του Απόλλωνα και του Ασκληπιού, Θέατρο, Γυμνάσιο, Βουλευτήριο. Η επικράτηση του χριστιανισμού μετά από τους διωγμούς των Ρωμαίων αυτοκρατόρων επέφερε το κλείσιμο και την καταστροφή του Ιερού. Η βασιλική οικοδομήθηκε τον 5ο αι. μ.Χ., καταστράφηκε πιθανότατα στα μέσα του 6ου αι. από σεισμό και επισκευάστηκε στη συνέχεια, ενώ 40 μ. νοτιοανατολικά της οικοδομείται μία ακόμη βασιλική, η Αγία Σοφία. Τον 7ο αι. εγκαταλείπεται λόγω των αραβικών επιδρομών.
Από τη βασιλική του Χριστού της Ιερουσαλήμ έχει αποκαλυφθεί μόνο το ανατολικό τμήμα από τις ανασκαφές του Άγγλου Ch. Newton και του Ιταλού M. Serge το 1937. Σε καλή κατάσταση διατηρείται η αψίδα του ιερού βήματος σε ολόκληρο το ύψος της. Ως οικοδομικό υλικό έχουν χρησιμοποιηθεί αρχιτεκτονικά μέλη και ενεπίγραφοι δόμοι από οικοδομήματα του αρχαίου ιερού του Δηλίου Απόλλωνα που προϋπήρχε στον ίδιο χώρο. Το κεντρικό κλίτος είναι στρωμένο με μεγάλες μαρμάρινες πλάκες, ενώ το νότιο καλύπτεται με ψηφιδωτή σύνθεση που περιλαμβάνει ζώα μέσα σε φυσικό περιβάλλον.

The "Christ in Jerusalem" is a three-aisled Early Christian basilica, located in Limniotissa, a distance of 200 meters west of the country Kalimnos beside the asphalt road leading from the Country to Panormos.
In the region including the Early Christian basilica of Christ of Jerusalem lies at the prochristianikous time the temple of Apollo Diliou, the protector and patron god of Kalymnos. According to testimony epigraphy, the area was the political and religious center of ancient Kalimnos. Here were the temples of Apollo and Asclepius, Theater, Gymnasium, Bouleuterion. The prevalence of Christianity after the persecution of Roman emperors by the closure and destruction of the Temple. The basilica was built in the 5th century. AD, probably destroyed in the mid-6th century. by an earthquake and then repaired, and 40 m southeast of another basilica built the Hagia Sophia. In the 7th century. abandoned because of Arab raids.
From the basilica of Christ in Jerusalem has revealed only the eastern part of the excavations of the English Ch. Newton and the Italian M. Serge in 1937. In good condition maintained the arch of the Sanctuary to the entire amount. As a building material used architectural Domos and inscribed by the ancient buildings of the temple of Apollo Diliou that existed in the same place.
